Dear American Red Cross Supporters,

During the Ninety year history of the Cleveland County Chapter of the American Red Cross, our local volunteers have always been there to lend a helping hand when help couldn't wait. There selfless dedication is just as evident today as it was ninety years ago.

Locally the Cleveland County Chapter helps people put their lives back together by responding to 51 local disasters and house fires and provided more than $19,000 in direct assistance to the victims. The Cleveland County Chapter trained and deployed 25 individuals as volunteer disaster workers. Many helped not only here in Cleveland County, but went to the scene of tornadoes, floods, hurricanes or other disasters in the United States where they fed, sheltered and clothed those in need. Twenty-five individuals were certified for assignment to regional and national disasters. The Chapter educated 1,000 people about how to cope with severe weather, disasters or other emergency conditions. During severe weather the chapter transported medical personnel to and from hospitals and nursing homes and maintained emergency radio communication.

Through Health and Safety Service this Chapter is able to build a safer community through education. During 2006-2007 1,337 individuals were trained in First Aid and CPR and 2313 individuals were trained in Water Safety and Swimming. Staff trained 5 new volunteers to become Health & Safety Instructors to assist the more that 50 current volunteers. These volunteer instructors taught 1,100 individuals about HIV / AIDS.

We once again met our goal of collecting enough blood to meet the needs of all three local hospitals. During 2006-2007 the Cleveland County Red Cross held 131 blood drives collected 4,109 pints of blood. We collected blood from 136 people for use in their own upcoming elective surgery and recruited 461 new first time blood donors.

By National Charter the American Red Cross is required to provide assistance to our service men and women and their families anywhere, anytime. The Cleveland County Chapter responded within two hours to all requests for crisis assistance from members of the Armed Forces and their families. This Chapter helped 89 men and women in the Armed Services get home in time for a birth or death in the family, traced a loved one with whom they have lost contact, or communicate an emergency message to or from home. The "Get to Know Us Before You Need Us" program was presented to 131 members of the Cleveland County Military Support Group.
